A Productive Week
Thought I would post a little about my process or working week.
I start the week with a target or goal in mind - this week was to have three or four things off of the needles. I planned three smaller projects and one larger or more time consuming.
For the three smaller I decided (roughly) on style and colour palette and went from there. I keep a stock list of the yarns I have, the amounts and colours, that said I still played 'yarn chicken' with one of them being left with 10cm of the main colour after binding off!
Other weeks if I am dyeing my own colours then I start the week with skeining from the cone and dyeing early in the week so if I'm not happy with what I produce I can over dye of try again later in the week. I am rather thankful (due to the heat) that I had no dyeing planned this week - phew!
For this week it was mainly about deciding patterns, charting or adapting existing charts and then knitting. Thing is I am a fidget so I can't just sit and knit all day, so I have to break my day up with
other things. This means I start about 8am and finish around 7pm at the moment. The heat is definitely making me slower.
By Tuesday pm the three small projects were done and I made a start on the more complex - four colour - project. I had to tweak the chart a bit and change one of the colour choices as it just didn't work, luckily that meant ripping out only 10 pattern rows. Mitten one was finished Wednesday pm and I made a start on its partner which came off the needles at around 7pm last night. Everything now just needs a good soak and blocking.
Today is going to be prepping for next week. I will be dyeing some replacements for stuff I used this week and also about sizing up an existing mitten in two new colour combinations.
I feel like I am working really hard, but obviously this is all for the future so I'm not actually earning any money yet, as there is no point is pushing this forward in this weather. It is scary at times but I believe in being positive and not looking for failure before it happens.
(The above photo is this weeks project four in production :) I love how these colours work together.)
Taking a leap of faith is a big thing but over all I feel much happier and I am so happy not to have been working at my old job this week, I bet the studio was killing - by boiling - everyday.
Lastly I thought I would share my logo with you. I am so pleased with it. It just felt so right from the moment it jumped off the page. Now it is time to wind some yarn, soak some mittens and then the rest of the time is mine until Monday (bet you anything you like that there are mittens on the needles before then). I plan to work on some personal knitting, get some reading in and do some sewing. What do you have planned for your weekend?
